U.K. CHARTS: AT 25, MOGWAI SECURES FIRST #1

After their first nine albums reached the Top 40 with only two going Top 10, Mogwai scores their first #1 in the U.K. with 10th studio record As the Love Continues (Rock Action). At singles, Lil Tjay & 6LACK dial into the Top 3.

Mogwai finishes the week 2,900 in chart sales ahead of Conflict of Interest (Warner) from British rapper Ghetts, who tooled around central London in a tank this week to draw attention to his third album.

As the Love Continues was this week’s best seller on vinyl and the top seller in U.K. independent record shops. Mogwai’s #1 comes 25 years after the release of their first single.

The deluxe edition of Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia (Warner) was the most-streamed album of the week, pushing it up to #3 on the Official Albums chart. Another expanded collection, Ariana Grande’s Positions (Island) rebounded 28 places to #5.

At singles, Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license” (Polydor) has now been parked at #1 for seven weeks, holding off Lil Tjay & 6LACK’s “Calling My Phone” (Columbia/Interscope), at #2, and Nathan Evans f/220 Kid and Billen Ted’s “Wellerman” (Polydor) remix, at #3.

“drivers license” now has the longest run at #1 since Tones & I’s “Dance Monkey” spent 11 weeks atop the chart between October and December 2019.

Tiesto scores his third Top 5 single with “The Business” (Atlantic), at #4, and Riton & Nightcrawlers f/Mufasa & Hypeman’s “Friday” (Ministry of Sound) is up three to #7.

The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” (XO/Republic) is up two places to #11, one slot ahead of “Latest Trends” by EMI’s A1 x J1. The week’s highest new entry is Ella Henderson & Tom Grennan’s “Let’s Go Home Together” (Major Toms/Asylum) at #28.
