The House That Trane Built—Impulse! Records—turns 60 this year and UMe has started the celebration with a deep dive video into a John Coltrane classic.
A Love Supreme: Deep Dive explores the lasting musical and historical importance of Coltrane’s 1965 recording A Love Supreme. It’s the first release in the celebration that will include a box set, a reimagined Alice Coltrane rarity, high-fidelity vinyl reissues, curated playlists, brand partnerships and more deep-dive videos.
“Over the last 60 years, Impulse! Records has released some of the most important and influential jazz albums of all time and UMe remains honored to continue to help expand the legacy of this exceptional catalog,” said Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO of UMe. “We’re thrilled to celebrate six decades of this iconic and truly American label by shining a light all year long on the profound way that Impulse! and its many incredible artists have forever impacted music and culture.”
Impulse Records: Music, Message & The Moment is a four-LP box set that tells the story of the political, social and spiritual facets of the artists and music of Impulse! Records. It will be released in the summer.
Alice Coltrane’s Turiya Sings, a record of devotional chants released on cassette in 1982, was sold at her ashram. Turiya Sings will be released this summer in its purest form—just organ and voice—and in a deluxe edition with synths added .
Acoustic Sounds will issue audiophile grade pressings of Ray Charles’ Genius + Soul = Jazz, Gil Evans’ Out of the Cool, Oliver Nelson’s The Blues And The Abstract Truth, Sonny Rollins’ On Impulse! and other titles throughout the year.
Frontline releases will be coming from Sons of Kemet (spring), Brandee Younger (summer), and Pino Palladino & Blake Mills (March).
