Charity release “You’ll Never Walk Alone" (Decca Records) has emerged victorious after a battle with The Weeknd on the U.K's Official Singles Chart. The Bonny (Little Runaway) from Scottish singer/songwriter Gerry Cinnamon hits #1 on albums.
“You’ll Never Walk Alone," by Michael Ball, 98-year-old war veteran Capt. Tom Moore and The NHS Voices of Care Choir, shifted 82k sales to emerge victorious.
Proceeds from the single will go to NHS Charities Together to help during the coronavirus crisis. The funds join £28m already raised by Moore, who pledged to walk 100 laps in his back garden before his 100th birthday at the end of this month in aid of charity. At 99 years and 11 months, Moore is the oldest artist to reach #1 on the Official Singles Chart.
There's another charity single in the Top 5: the BBC Radio 1 Stay Home Live Lounge cover of Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These” by the Live Lounge Allstars (Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, Bastille, AJ Tracey and many more). It enters at #5 less than 24 hours after its release.
Outside the Top 10, Sam Smith & Demi Lovato’s “I’m Ready” (Capitol) debuts at #20, and Britain’s Got Talent star and pediatric nurse Beth Porch enters at #25 with “You Taught Me What Love Is” (Simco/Freemantle).
On the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart, Cinnamon charts on top with his second album on 29k combined sales. Sales of Cinnamon’s second album were 77% physical and downloads, and it’s the fastest-selling vinyl of the year with over 6,400 copies sold this week.
Enter Shikari’s Nothing is True & Everything is Possible (So Recordings) is also new at #2, followed by DaBaby with Blame It On Baby (Interscope) marking his first U.K. Top 10 at #8.
Further down, Luton rapper Nafe Smallz debuts at #12 with Goat World (Ozone Music) and Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien’s solo debut as EOB, Earth (Polydor), charts at #13.
