SPOTIFY ADDS STORIES

Spotify is revisiting their stories concept, but with a new twist. The platform, which tested a story feature last year called Storyline, is introducing a stories function that allows influencers to include video aspects in their public playlists.

Makeup and fashion vlogger Summer Mckeen is the first influencer to test the feature. Mckeen, who has 2.1m+ Instagram followers and 126k+ Spotify followers, is using the new feature to introduce a playlist of her favorite songs called “all time besties.”

Similar to other story features, you can click profile photos within playlists to check out the videos. Users can see personal clips of influencers and snippets of tracks featured on the playlist with album art. Within the stories are options to save, add to queue, add to playlist and more. Currently, the story function is only available on the app.

While the story function is not available to artists, they still have access to Canvas, the looping videos concept. Spotify will be rolling the story feature out to other influencers soon. A variety of factors that determine being selected to test Spotify’s stories are likely follower count, engagement and influencer activity, among others.

The feature is presently just a test and available to all tiers of Spotify users.
