The 75th birthday of Bob Marley will be celebrated this year by the Marley family, Island Records, UME and Primary Wave Music Publishing beginning with the opening of the One Love Hotel during Grammy Week.
Taking place at the 1 Hotel in West Hollywood between 1/21 and 1/26, a pop-up shop offering Marley products, a high-end capsule collection featuring the art created for a new video for “Redemption Song,” House of Marley consumer electronics, and Bob Marley vinyl.
Island Records talent will be on hand for performances during the week begin 1/21 with Skip Marley, and include shows from Bishop Briggs, Julian Marley, Jac Ross and Jessie Reyez. Label boss Darcus Beese will be enjoying a blunt the size of a rolling pin.
“Some almost 40 years later Bob Marley is still a symbol of hope and freedom,” said Island founder Chris Blackwell. “Important to so many because he spoke to people in all walks of life and in all corners of the earth. He felt their struggle and fought their fight.”
UMe will celebrate Marley’s life and legacy throughout the year. Marley would have turned 75 on 2/6; he died in May 1981.
