Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited and its investment advisor, The Family (Music) Limited, have acquired a music catalog from songwriter, producer and Snow Patrol keyboardist Johnny McDaid. McDaid has co-written songs with Ed Sheeran, Pink, Shawn Mendes, Robbie Williams and Snow Patrol that have tallied over 20b streams.
Hipgnosis has acquired 100% of McDaid’s interest in his catalog of songs released before 2019, which comprises 91 songs.
Collaborating closely with Sheeran since 2013, McDaid co-wrote the most-streamed song of all time, "Shape Of You" which has over 2.3b streams. In addition to winning a Grammy and an Ivor Novello Award, "Shape Of You" reached #1 on the singles chart in 34 countries including the U.S., where it remained #1 for 16 weeks.
McDaid also co-wrote Sheeran's "Photograph," and co-wrote five songs on Sheeran’s x album.
The catalog also includes Pink’s Grammy-nominated "What About Us," which is reached #1 in nine countries, as well as songs by Williams, Mendes, Keith Urban, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, and Biffy Clyro.
Hipgnosis Songs Founder Merck Mercuriadis said: “Johnny is one of the most extraordinary creators and his work with Ed and so many others speaks for itself.”
