T FOR TEXAS, A FOR ARENA

Groundbreaking and construction have begun on the Moody Center, the Oak View Group/Live Nation/University of Texas multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena in Austin.

The new $338m, 15,000-seat arena replaces the 42-year-old Frank C. Erwin Jr. Center at The University of Texas at Austin campus. Live Nation will be working with C3 Presents to bring tours and other live entertainment to the arena.

"The Moody Center will be a must-play arena and we look forward to bringing our concerts and tours there as soon as the doors open in 2022," said Michael Rapino, Chairman and CEO, Live Nation Entertainment. The venue had hoped for a 2021 opening.

UT alum Matthew McConaughey, who has signed on as Minister of Culture for the venue, said "It should be the first place the biggest bands in the world want to play, but the last place a visiting basketball team wants to play."

Reps from Nate ‘n Al’s have been surveying the local Texans to measure their appetite for borscht, stuffed kishkas and smoked whitefish.
