Once again, the CMAs have moved the needle, particularly at iTunes, where country records regularly succeed.
P!nk and Chris Stapleton’s performance of “Love Me Anyway” on the CMA Awards telecast impressed more than just Reese Witherspoon as it led the iTunes charge.
Their RCA-released duet is #1 at iTunes songs, where seven of Top 10 and 19 of the Top 30 tracks are from country artists. We’re not even counting Halsey in that tally, who jammed with Lady Antebellum on their “What If I Never Get Over You” (currently #5) and her “Graveyard” (#14). Lady A’s new BMLG release, Ocean, comes out Friday.
Luke Combs, whose What You See is What You Get (River House/Columbia Nashville) is on its way to a #1 debut this week, bolstered his sales with a performance of “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” which sits at #8 on iTunes songs just ahead of “Even Though I’m Leaving” (#10). The new album is #1 at iTunes and #4 at Apple Music; its predecessor, This One’s for You, is #6 at iTunes.
In fact, six of the Top 10 albums are country—and that's not including P!nk's set, which houses the Stapleton duet.
Columbia Nashville’s Maren Morris, who sang the title track from Album of the Year winner GIRL while admiring her baby bump, sees the album hit #2 and the single reach #13 at iTunes. Other performers getting a different sort of bump: Miranda Lambert’s Wildcard (Vanner/RCA Nashville) is #4; Old Dominion’s self-titled RCA Nashville release follows at #5, and Dan + Shay’s Warner Nashville release from June 2018 has climbed back to #8. Their “Speechless” holds the #7 position at songs.
Over at Amazon, CDs from Combs, Lady Antebellum, Lambert, Blake Shelton and Old Dominion were in the Top 10.
