On Sunday, 8/25, in Dayton, Ohio, comedian Dave Chappelle hosted a gun control benefit, block party and concert, along with Stevie Wonder, Chance the Rapper, Talib Kweli, Teyana Taylor and comedians Jon Stewart and Michael Che. Earlier that morning, Kanye West performed his Sunday Service at a related event elsewhere in Dayton. Chappelle's event, entitled Gem City Shine, was held to honor those injured or killed in the mass shooting there earlier this month, and to benefit families and survivors.
There is still talk of a larger event on the horizon, which we hear might feature some of the biggest names in country music, including Kacey Musgraves. The purported message from some of the alleged participants: "We own guns but we need laws, and we need to stop letting the NRA control the agenda." Stay tuned.
