In a Q2 earnings call, iHeartMedia topper Bob Pittman claimed "73% of Spotify's listening comes from just 3% of their audience." The stats—which iHeartMedia confirmed are sourced—struck a nerve with Spotify boss Daniel Ek, who tweeted a rebuttal to the data, "Not sure where that data is from, but it's far from true."
Pittman set up his shot at Spotify with numbers touting the iHeart listening experience, "75% of iHeartMedia’s listening comes from 34% of our audience, that’s the radio experience: always there, always available, something everyone can use when they wanted."
