Beneath our very windows, a giant crew is assembling the massive Lion King red-carpet set, ahead of Disney's mega-movie premiere and the accompanying official ST, which drops digitally Friday and physically on 7/19. The single "Spirit" dropped Tuesday and is Top 5 at iTunes. Meanwhile, a Beyoncé-curated/produced compilation on Columbia, The Lion King: A Gift, is due on 7/19.
The remake stars the voices of Beyoncé, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Oliver and more; the album features a new Elton John song, "Never Too Late," co-written with Tim Rice. Bey, Glover and co-stars sing a new version of Sir Elton's mighty "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," while there are also new renditions of "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" and the perennial "Hakuna Matata." Pharrell produced the key pop tracks and Hans Zimmer contributes score.
The original Lion King album, released in 1994, is the 23rd biggest release of the modern era and is a Diamond seller. We'll say that again: a Diamond seller.
