RECORDING ACADEMY STATEMENT ON MMA

The Recording Academy submitted comments to the Copyright Office Monday on the "Designation of Mechanical Licensing and Digital Licensee Coordinator."

Their statement to the Copyright Office reads:

"The Recording Academy appreciates the leadership of both the American Music Licensing Collective (AMLC) and Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) and respects their submissions to be the new Collective. After careful review, the Academy believes the MLC is best equipped to run the Collective. However, additional information is necessary regarding accurate data matching and songwriter outreach to ensure every songwriter is properly paid for their work. The Copyright Office anticipated the need for applicants to "supplement their initial submission" and we encourage them to seek more information in these areas."

The Academy's full comments can be found here.
