TAG THEY'RE IT: SHAZAM'S BIGGEST MOVERS

In this day and age, should a song be synched in a commercial or TV show prior to its commercial release? Can a pre-release ride up the Shazam chart result in future consumption? Epic’s Zara Larsson will find out.

Larsson’s upcoming single with Marshmello, “Wow,” is currently being used in a Citibank commercial, which is attracting the ears and thumbs of Shazam users as it pushes its way up the Shazam USA Top 100. Speaking of commercial, a Walmart ad has revived interest in a Pharrell Williams track from the Despicable Me 3 soundtrack, “Freedom” (Columbia).

The week’s greatest gainers benefitted from TV and film placements: Jake Houlsby’s 2017 song “Howl” (Tipping Point) was used in NBC’s This Is Us and

Janelle Monae’s “I Like That” (Bad Boy) is on the Us soundtrack.

Sean Paul & J Balvin’s “Contra La Pared” (Island) is the lone new track on the greatest gainers list.

In the U.K., Steel Banglez’s “Fashion Week” leads the list of biggest gainers as the grime artist is joined on the catwalk with AJ Tracey and MoStack. British gospel/hip-hop—apparently that’s a thing—follows in the form of “Church” from Samm Henshaw f/EARTHGANG.
