YAY, IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY! LET'S PLAY WITH LISTS

Valentine's Day is the playlist theme that just keeps giving. Whether the #mood surrounds being chased, being loved or being ghosted. Music can channel the feelings on this hellhole, erm, we mean hallowed day.

Both radio and digital rose to the occasion in their own unique ways to celebrate. Here’s a recap:

Pandora acknowledges that Valentine’s Day can be wildly polarizing, so their data team took a close look at how people were feeling about it across the country, based on listening habits from last year's Valentine’s Day—measuring who listened to love-themed stations vs breakup stations. The results were interesting. Hawaii, Connecticut and Georgia (in that order) are at the top of the list for feeling the love songs, while South Dakota, West Virginia and Vermont blast the most breakup tunes. When you factor in gender, Pandora found that men ages 65+ play the most love songs, while women ages 13-20 play the most breakup songs. Yeah, you read that right; older men are emotional wimps and teenagers are mood savages. No headlines there.

Spotify on the other hand, wants everyone to feel the love on the 14th, whether you’re single, married, starting a new relationship or breaking up with someone, because not everyone will be in the mood for listening to romantic ballads. Their team decided to turn inward for a little Valentine’s inspiration, with the creation of a playlist called Self-Love, specifically about appreciating a supremely important person in your life: you. Speaking of self-love, pass the damn "chocolates..."

iHeartRadio is celebrating this year with a feature tailored to couples, by launching ValenTime Machine Playlist, a site that lets users enter dates to find a playlist of the most popular love songs from their own anniversary year (going back as far as 1970, kiddos). The goal is to help users rediscover love songs from the year couples met or married their significant other.

Meanwhile, Amazon Music had multiple playlists curated by notable artists, like The Chainsmokers and Florida Georgia Line. “For all the single people out there, we got you,” said the Chainsmokers of their uptempo playlist. And Tyler Hubbard from FGL said of theirs, “When we wanna have a date night with our wives, which is pretty often these days, these are the jams that make it special. From out on the town, to back in the bedroom, these are the songs that keep the night rockin’.”

If you're Kanye West however, you gotta work extra hard for wifey KeKe, so Kim Kardashian was treated to her own private concert by saxophonist Kenny G surrounded by red, pink and white roses floating in her living room. Something similar happened in the HITS conference room today, but Todd Hensley just isn't as gifted at the nose flute.
