SIX SELECTED FOR SONGWRITERS HALL

The writers of “Peace Train,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “The Great Compromise” have been selected for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame along with Missy Elliott, who becomes the first female hip-hop artist honored.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens, John Prine and Jack Tempchin, along with Dallas Austin and Tom T. Hall, will join the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the organization’s 50th annual Induction and Awards Dinner on 6/13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Additional special award honorees will be announced soon.

“The 2019 slate of inductees represents diversity and unity across genres and gender, highlighting our dedicated mission to honor music creators who have enriched our lives,” said SHOF Chairman Nile Rodgers. “These are writers who in their time literally transformed music and helped make what’s happening today possible”.

Austin has written and/or produced more than 50 hit singles, among them “The Boy Is Mine” from Brandy and Monica, and TLC’s “Creep.” Elliott is a four-time Grammy winner known for the landmark Supa Dupa Fly and songs such as “Hot Boyz” and “Work It.”

Prine’s catalog includes “Sam Stone,” “Angel From Montgomery,” “Paradise,” “Hello In There,” and “Illegal Smile,” songs that influenced multiple geneartions of songwriters. Hall recorded 33 Top 20 country hits, including “Ballad of Forty Dollars,” “A Week in a Country Jail,” “The Year Clayton Delaney Died,” “(Old Dogs, Children and) Watermelon Wine,” and “I Love.” Tempchin is best known for his Eagles collaborations, "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and "Already Gone.”

Cat Stevens is known for many things, most importantly his work from the early 1970s that included “Wild World”, “Father & Son”, “Oh Very Young” and “Moonshadow.”
