CHART STORY: A SAVAGE NEW YEAR

Slaughter Gang/Epic’s 21 Savage is starting the new year on top, as his 12/21 release, i am > i was, appears at #1 on 2019’s first Top 50 Chart. The set moved 61k in its second week out.

Meanwhile, Post Malone’s two-times platinum beerbongs & bentleys (Republic) spends its 36th week out at #3, moving another 46k. The label’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack—on which Post’s collab with Swae Lee, “Sunflower,” lives—can be found at #5 with 43k.

Another needle-moving soundtrack, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born set (Interscope), rounds out the Top 10 in its 13th week out.

When it comes to marketshare, UMG is #1 with 51%, WMG follows with 32% and SME is #3 with 14%, while the indies claim 3%.

Streeting in the next few weeks are Columbia’s Bring Me the Horizon (1/11), Capitol’s Maggie Rogers (1/18), Island’s Mike Posner (1/18) and RCA’s Backstreet Boys (1/25).

So, there ya have it. Yes, we’re back at work, but don’t be fooled; we’re still drunk. Is it Grammy time yet?
