LABEL SHARE—FLAG THROWN ON FOURTH AND GOAL

Some nerdite casual observers of our item on the most recent label marketshare caught us with our pants down—not a good look, especially when everybody’s in costume for Halloween.

Specifically, we tricked rather than treating, running the year-to-date stats for the week ending 10/18—when Columbia was #4 and Capitol Music Group was #5—rather than those for the week ending 10/25, when CMG jumped ahead of Columbia.

Adhering to the “all’s fair in war and marketshare” clause, we now give the most current numbers for CMG and Columbia. A perusal of the protagonists’ respective bios reveals why this matter could be just a bit touchy. Mea culpa.
