HIT US, BABY, ONE MORE TIME, AND PLEASE, GOD, LET IT KILL US

Wanna feel old? Like, wiry white hair, creaky joints, teeth-in-a-jar kinda old? Consider this fact: Britney Spears' inaugural smash, "...Baby One More Time," was released 20 years ago. Jive/Legacy is helpfully reminding us of this milestone with a commemorative picture disc, due out 11/23.

Of course, when the track was first issued by Jive, on 10/23/98, Bill Clinton was in his second term and two months away from an unsuccessful impeachment. Amandla Stenberg, now starring in The Hate U Give, was born. And we... were working at HITS. There wasn't a website yet; the magazine was delivered by carrier pigeon.

Britney, of course, would go on to become a megastar and pop-cultural icon.

In a related story, Clive Calder still lives on one of the islands he owns.
