Presenter DJ Target and producer Sarah Beaumont have been appointed station leads for music at BBC Radio 1Xtra. Target will chair the 1Xtra playlist meeting and helm live event programming; Beaumont will lead music programming and editorial, and line manage the rest of the team.
They both report to Radio 1 & 1Xtra Head of Music Chris Price, who has made two further promotions: Jade Style steps up as Producer for 1Xtra, while Mel Lewis becomes Producer for Radio 1.
“Target and Sarah will bring a new energy to 1Xtra at this critical time in its growth,” Price said. “This new approach to music strategy will only help build on 1Xtra’s world-class reputation for bringing the best of black music and culture to young audiences.”
Launched in 2002, BBC Radio 1Xtra now reaches around 1.1m listeners each week. The station has played a central role in bringing contemporary black and urban music to the mainstream, championing British artists.
