A VISIT WITH THE
TONY WINNERS

The Band's Visit, adapted from the Israeli film of the same name, took 10 trophies including Best New Musical at Sunday's Tony Awards. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child took Best Play.

The Band's Visit prevailed in a category shared by such entertainments as Mean Girls, Spongebob Squarepants and Frozen.

Visit co-stars Tony Shahloub, Katrina Lenk and Ari'el Stachel also took home trophies. Other big acting laurels went to Angels in America stars Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane and Three Tall Women co-stars Glenda Jackson and Laurie Metcalf. Angels also won for play revival, while Once on This Island was the upset winner in musical revival.

Special Tonys went to Bruce Springsteen, lately the toast of Broadway with his revealing solo show, and John Leguizamo.

Drama students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the Parkland, Florida school where 17 lives were lost in a mass shooting, performed "Seasons of Love" from Rent, after their teacher, Melody Herzfeld, accepted the Excellence in Theater Education award.
