QTIP PUTS THE GRAMMYS ON BLAST

In the inevitable fallout from the Grammy nominations, QTip has taken to social media in a series of Instagram videos to blast his grievances toward the Recording Academy (which he addresses as "them Grammy n***as") for snubbing the final (and highly reviewed) 2016 album from his pioneering group A Tribe Called Quest, We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service.

"We were the most black cultured group out, that’s all we stood on, that’s how we represented," Tip said, countering the current narrative about this being the blackest Grammys in years, "this fucking album that we just put out, THIS LAST TRIBE ALBUM? This stands with everybody else's shit that’s up there."

Further, to hear Tip tell it, there was some behind the scenes politicking that went on last year as well, including the group agreeing to appear as the closing performance of last year's Grammy Awards. And apparently the committee made some other requests that the artist couldn't accommodate. Now he's feeling punished for that.

Tip continued, "You get us to get out there and perform last year at the closing shit and y’all don’t get us no fucking nominations? Ninth [Wonder, the producer], what happened?

"I got respect for Ninth, he’s my man. He was trying to get me to come out there and vote in the rap category for some new shit they were doing I didn’t do it….And we don’t get shit? For that album? FOR THAT ALBUM?"

There has been much discussion around the Grammy Committee's peculiar selection process, much of it by us, but it continues to be a mysterious thing. However, considering the context of this record being not only the last work by a truly groundbreaking and legendary group but also the parting gift to fans and hip-hop alike by a then-dying Phife Dawg (who passed just eight months before its release), it seems Tip has a valid point about the snub. THIS ALBUM?
