Two young Interscope acts, based in cities half a world away from each other, went neck and neck this week in the U.S. and the U.K. to see whose track would be the week’s biggest gainer on the two Shazam Top 100 charts. We have two different winners.
L.A. teen singer Billie Eilish, whose “Ocean Eyes” (Darkroom/Interscope) rose 188 slots to #13 on the Shazam USA Top 100 and 189 slots to #12 in the U.K. Eilish is Apple Music’s UpNext artist for October and her best-known song, a hit on Soundcloud in 2016, is what led to her Interscope deal. She performed it recently on The Late, Late Show With James Corden.
In the U.K., “Old School” from the Swedish indie-pop group Urban Cone was tops, rising 193 slots to #8. The track, which Interscope released in January, rose 185 slots to #16 in the U.S.
Another year-old song, Saint Phnx’s “King” (MAAS), is up 174 to #27 in the U.S. and 181 slots to #20 in Blighty. A brand new release from Epic’s Yo Gotti, ”Juice,” rose 116 spaces to #85.
A sync on ABC’s The Good Doctor pushed up Aron Wright’s “Build It Better” (My Darling Elephant) to #91, a 110-slot spike.
