Turkish DJ Harun Erkezen’s track “You Wanna Be a Famous” is suddenly famous—though good luck figuring out who Erkezen is. The 2012 track is the week’s biggest gainer on the Shazam 100 in both the U.S. and the U.K.
Erkezen’s background is a bit mystifying—he has no website or bio and his Twitter feed is largely outdated save for a track he did with someone named Gamez. Somehow, his “Famous” single rose 169 slots in Blighty and 159 spots Stateside. He apparently has a gig this week in Kiev as one of many DJs spinning at a Michael Jackson tribute concert, but other than that, he’s a mystery man.
We do know, however, that Majid Jordan’s June release featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR, “One I Want” (OVO/Warner Bros.), is among the four other cuts that made leaps of more than 100 slots on the Shazam USA Top 100.
Other major gainers were Jessy Matador’s May release “Mi Amore” (Byfall); MagnusTheMagnus’ “Area” (Universal), which was used in a June episode of Freeform’s Shadowhunters; and Empire Cast f/Jussie Smollett & Yazz’s “Love Me” (Fox/Columbia), which appeared in the 9/27 episode of the Fox drama, shoots 101 slots to #100.
