US Weekly is reporting that Justin Timberlake is “finalizing” a deal to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show next year. No Jay-Z, no guests. Just JT.
Last year, the NFL handed over the stage to Lady Gaga after going with multi-act performances the previous three years. It would make sense to have Timberlake introduce a new song from the solo album, his fifth, he is working on. He could do a double whammy: Launch a single as Beyonce did two years ago or announce a tour as Gaga and others have done.
Timberlake, of course, performed at the 2004 Super Bowl with Janet Jackson where the world learned the term “wardrobe malfunction” and in 2001 with *N SYNC. Is the NFL really ready to make nice? Stay tuned.
