XXXtentacion, the 19-year-old Florida rapper/singer-songwriter set to bow at #2 on this week's SPS chart, has been on the biz radar for some time, having emerged from SoundCloud with the lo-fi breakout "Look at Me" and scoring killer streams.
17, his 11-song debut set via Bad Vibes Forever/Empire, will likely garner in the neighborhood of 80m streams; he currently has the #1 track at Apple Music with "Jocelyn Flores," as well as multiple songs on the Spotify U.S. Top 50, where "Jocelyn" is #3 (and he charted on the Global Top 50 as well). At iTunes, he has the #2 album.
His often dark, searching songs blend lo-fi hip-hop, acoustic soul and alternative, and are clearly touching a nerve (he's inked to SONGS for publishing).
How do you pronounce his name? Smoke a fat blunt and you'll figure it out.
