iHEART, OTHERS RESPOND TO HURRICANE HARVEY
iHeartMedia's network is actively promoting a call to donate to the American Red Cross to aid people affected by Hurricane Harvey as the broadcaster’s Texas stations get to work providing support and information.
The storm hit land Friday as a Category 4 hurricane and has so far left five people reported dead. The city of Houston, a metropolitan area of 6.6m residents, has been flooded—roads have been turned into rivers, everyone with a boat has been asked to help with rescue efforts and the National Weather Service is predicting rain through Friday.
iHeartRadio has been using social media platforms in Corpus Christi, Houston and Austin to direct the community to local stations for emergency broadcasts and safety information. Staffs at stations are on hand to direct callers to appropriate community resources.
iHeartMedia Corpus Christi is also working with the Red Cross to coordinate post-storm relief efforts, and the Austin and San Antonio stations have prepared to deliver ice, water and fuel to the Gulf Coast as soon as recovery efforts begin.
Texas Monthly has compiled a guide to how people can help victims of the storm. The mayor of Houston has announced a relief fund.

“Houston has played host to ZZ Top as our home base since we first banded together more than four decades ago, making us especially concerned with the plight of so many of our fellow Texans in the wake of the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. We are encouraged by the city's and state's recovery efforts from this tragic event and stand alongside our neighbors. Long ago, we recorded a song called 'Heaven, Hell or Houston.' We’re confident that, in the near future, the the first word will describe the title's third word and the the middle will soon be overcome.”
