THE GRAMMY GARDEN PARTY THAT WASN'T

The grapevine is buzzing about what happened to the press conference that had been organized to announce that the 2018 Grammys would be held at NYC’s Madison Square Garden.

The big reveal, insiders told Page Six, was originally scheduled for 9am EDT Tuesday at the Garden, but earlier that morning, Mayor de Blasio’s assistant notified the other individuals with whom he’d be sharing the rostrum—MSG’s Jim Dolan, CBS chief Les Moonves and Recording Academy topper Neil Portnow—that he “needed to work out” (which he does obsessively on a daily basis, according to the Post) and wanted to move it to 11:30.

Di Blasio’s nutty last-minute audible, the story goes, so pissed off the usually unflappable Portnow that he canceled the press conference on the spot and instead made the announcement via press release.
