MUSIC, BEATS PUMP APPLE'S Q2

The hottest areas in Apple’s universe—the services sector that includes iTunes and the “other products” such as Beats headphones—saw significant spikes in sales in the company’s second fiscal quarter while its iPhones business missed its target.

The Services unit, which includes its music operation, Apple Pay and other content businesses, was up 18% to $7.04 billion. Revenue for Other Products—Beats, Apple TV, etc.— was up 31% to $2.87b.

"We're happy to see the deep level of customer engagement with all of our services," Apple CEO Tim Cook said after issuing financials for the period that ended 4/1. “We’re thrilled with the strong momentum of our Services business, with our highest revenue ever for a 13-week quarter.”

The company posted quarterly revenue of $52.9b and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $2.10. That’s up from $50.6b a year ago and earnings per diluted share of $1.90. International sales accounted for 65% of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple sold 50.8m iPhones in the quarter, generating revenue of $33.2 b.
