UMG is celebrating nine Oscar nominations, including Song nods for artists Sam Smith, The Weeknd and Lady Gaga, a Best Documentary Feature nom for the acclaimed Amy Winehouse chronicle Amy and multiple nods for Best Score.
Amy was executive-produced by Universal U.K. chief David Joseph with Uni U.K. Director of Business Affairs Adam Barker; it was directed by Asif Kapadia and produced by James Gay-Rees.

Universal Publishing also represents writers on three entrants for Best Song: Jimmy Napes, who co-wrote the Smith-sung, Golden Globe-winning “Writing on the Wall” from Spectre; Stephan Moccio and Jason “DaHeala” Quenneville, who co-penned “Earned It” from Fifty Shades of Grey with The Weeknd; and Diane Warren, author of the Gaga-sung “Til It Happens to You” from shocking doc The Hunting Ground.
UMG is the source of recordings for all five nominated scores: Williams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Thomas Newman’s Bridge of Spies, Ennio Morricone’s Golden Globe-winning The Hateful Eight, Carter Burwell’s Carol and Jóhann Jóhannsson’s Sicario.
Proclaimed UMG topper Lucian Grainge, “Our presence in film and television is an important part of our growth strategy and provides our artists with new opportunities and underscores their massive appeal beyond recorded music. These nominations highlight the progress we’ve made in just a short period of time and I offer my sincerest congratulations to all our nominees.”
The Oscars will take place at L.A.s Dolby Theater on 2/28.
