JACK GARRATT NAMED BBC'S SOUND OF 2016

Island U.K. up-and-comer Jack Garratt has been named winner of 2016’s BBC Sound Of poll, adding another high-profile tip to his BRITs Critics' Choice gong. The last act to achieve the double win was Capitol’s Sam Smith in 2014, who (as we all know) went on to great things.

Garratt beat competition from runner-up Alessia Cara (Def Jam), Nao (RCA), Blossoms (Virgin EMI), and Mura Masa (Polydor) and WSTRN (Atlantic U.K.), who came in joint fifth place.

It’s been a good week for Garratt, whose 4/15 show at London’s Brixton Academy (5k cap.) sold out on 1/6. The latest win is the second the Beeb has awarded Garratt after taking home BBC Introducing Act at the BBC Music Awards in December.

Managed and A&R’d by Sam Faulkner at Sarah Stennett's First Access Entertainment, Island President Darcus Beese signed Garratt to his label in July 2014 in a joint venture with Interscope (John Janick signed him to the U.S. label). Garratt's debut album, Phase, is out on 2/19.

BBC have supported Garratt from the beginning of his career, an evolution that you can view here:

He also visited the Beeb’s Radio 1 Live Lounge today to perform “Worry,” alongside a mash-up of Justin Timberlake’s “Senorita” and Craig David’s “7 Days.” Check out his skills here:
