THE FORCE AWAKENS GOES #1

The latest installment of the Star Wars franchise, The Force Awakens, has officially leaped over James Cameron’s Avatar to become the #1 film of all time in North America. The J.J. Abrams-directed blockbuster has soared past the $760.6m domestic record in just 20 days. For comparison, it took Avatar 318 days to hit that mark.

Globally, however, Avatar remains the top dog with a jaw-dropping $2.78 billion, which is a far cry from Episode VII's $1.56b. It is worth noting that the latter has yet to open in China, though (and that it's only been out since 12/18...).
