SONY U.K.'S CHART TRIFECTA

1D, Calvin Harris, Little Mix Take Top Three Spots on Singles Chart

Jason Iley’s Sony U.K. is celebrating a trifecta on the British singles chart this week, having scored the top three spots with three U.K. acts—a 20-year best for the company’s domestic roster.

One Direction (on Simon Cowell and Sonny Takhar’s SYCO) seizes #1 with “Drag Me Down” (their fourth chart-topper), as the track—which shattered Spotify streaming records upon release and was the #1 iTunes song in 86 territories—also explodes stateside. It’s now #12 on the U.S. iTunes chart and leapt #30-23 on this week’s Mediabase Top 40 radio chart. It was also playlisted at BBC Radio 1 this week.

#2 goes to Calvin Harris (on the Alison Donald and Mark Terry-led Columbia) with “How Deep Is Your Love” featuring Disciples. “Love” was just A Listed at BBC Radio 1 and is now #34 at U.S. Pop radio.

SYCO also has the #3 record in Little Mix’s “Black Magic,” which spent three weeks at #1; the track is crossing smoothly to the U.S.; it’s currently trending Top 30 at Pop radio.

Sony U.K. COO Nicola Tuer congratulated all three acts and the “milestone” of achieving this feat with domestic artists. She added that this week’s three chart winners plus Mark Ronson and OMI have given Sony the #1 position for 13 weeks of 2015 so far. “Our track record,” she declared, “has been unmatched.”
