The Zac Brown Band’s #1, 217k bow on this week’s HITS Album Sales Chart is a big win for the cluster of labels involved—Brown’s own Southern Ground, the brand-new John Varvatos imprint, Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine and Monte Lipman’s Republic.
It’s said that Varvatos had already secured a deal with Brown (formerly on Atlantic) when Republic’s Charlie Walk inked Varvatos for a label deal. Borchetta’s presence, meanwhile, ensured a seamless synergy between Nashville and New York; Brown has scored #1 singles at both Country and Rock radio.
