MR. PINCUS GOES TO WASHINGTON

The Battle For Digital Rights Autonomy Begins

SONGS Music Publishing CEO Matt Pincus will be testifying as a witness representing the music publishing industry at the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on Department of Justice Consent Decrees tomorrow (3/10).

The consent decrees have been in place for 74 years, so ASCAP and BMI as well as several large publishers have asked the DOJ to review the agreement for the modern era, to allow Pubcos the flexibility to withdraw digital rights from blanket licensens and cut direct deals with digial music services.

Testimony will continue this week and next. You can watch the proceedings live beginning tomorrow at 10am EST. Pincus' colleague Ron Perry suggests firing up a spleef and having a big ol' CSPAN party.
