BUD COCKRELL, 59, lead vocalist for Pablo Cruise, who sang on such hits as "Whatcha Gonna Do?" and "Place in the Sun," died in his sleep due to complications from kidney failure. The Greenville, MS, native was in S.F. band It’s A Beautiful Day before joining Pablo Cruise. He went on to form his own group in 1978 with former Beautiful Day lead singer Patti Santos, whom he later married and recorded one album for A&M under the name Cockrell Santos Band. Bud is survived by his daughter Jocelyn, his mother, three sisters and three grandchildren. (3/17p)
