COLDPLAY TOPS U.K. DIGITAL SALES: Coldplay just set a one-week digital sales record in the U.K. with 83k+, part of its chart-topping total of 208k yesterday for their new Capitol album, Mylo Xyloto. The number is impressive because it was done without Spotify, as noted by I.B. Bad several weeks ago. Digital accounted for nearly 40% of that total, a trend that continues after the record was first set by Take That a couple of weeks ago. Will other superstar-level bands start rethinking their strategy vis a vis Spotify, Rhapsody, Pandora, Rdio and other streaming subscription services? As one publisher mused to Digital Music News, "Getting played is nice, getting paid is better." Amen. (11/1a)
