DON’T TOUCH THAT DIAL: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played a rare, small-venue, two-night benefit concert for UC Northridge radio station 88.5 KCSN last weekend, where PD Sky Daniels presented the band with a plaque thanking them for their dedication. “We gave one to the group to be hung in ‘The Clubhouse,’ their recording studio,” explained Daniels, “while the other hangs in the KCSN air studio to remind our jocks that every time we open the mike, we must believe in the magic!” A third plaque was created to sell to Amoeba. Pictured before learning the station was now being programmed with a national feed by Clear Channel are (l-r): the band’s Mike Campbell, Tom Petty and Benmont Tench; Daniels; group members Steve Ferrone, Scott Thurston and Ron Blair.
