COUNTRY, BIG APPLE-STYLE: And the #1 market for country album sales is… New York City?! That is no joke, according to Nielsen. L.A. was next, Dallas-Fort Worth was #3, and Nashville came in at #6. This year to date, 31.8 million physical and digital country albums have been sold in the U.S., according to SoundScan. Looking at record sales by genre, Charleston-Huntington, WV, were the most likely to buy country albums, while Nashville was #5. Year to date, country album sales account for 13% percent of all album sales in the U.S. Country ranks fourth among the top music genres, behind rock, R&B and alternative. Digital country music album purchasing is up 31% year-to-date, greater than the overall digital music album growth of 20%. (11/10a)
