STURGES' TRAVELS: After 13 years at Universal Music Publishing, Tom Sturges is stepping down as EVP/Head of Creative. Among his signings during his tenure were Three Doors Down, Jack Johnson, the Foo Fighters, 50 Cent and the great Afroman. (Previously, while at Chrysalis, Sturges signed Smashing Pumpkins, OutKast and the Goodie Mob.) He also hired Ethiopia Habetermariam as head of Urban. Look for the well-respected vet and coveted free agent to announce his new venture shortly. Sturges was one of the original three professors in The Music Business NOW class with Lenny Beer and Jeff Jampol, and will be serving as a guest lecturer this year.
