YOUR NEW YEAR’S WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was essentially flat from the week before on the final weekend of 2012, but the Paramount film’s $38.3 million gross over the four-day weekend was enough for the top spot. Making moves in their third weeks were #2 Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (WB), with $26.5m (+4%), and #3 Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (Fox), with $21m (+30%). In its second weekend, Steven Spielberg's War Horse (Disney/DreamWorks) also made a move, grossing $19.2m (+92%), to edge David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which took in $19m (+16%). Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo (Fox) picked up by an encouraging 41% to $15.5m. in its second week, besting Spielberg's other film, The Adventures of Tintin (Paramount), which grossed $15 million in week two.
