Roppo to Head Universal Republic Marketing

GIVE 'EM ENOUGH ROPPO: Jim Roppo is named EVP of Marketing for the newly expanded team at Universal Republic Records by President/CEO Monte Lipman and Co-President/COO Avery Lipman, to whom he reports. The announcement comes after the exit of longtime marketing head Kim Garner last week (see below). The N.Y.-based Roppo will lead marketing, digital, video and artist development initiatives for the label's roster. He'll also work closely with its imprints and digital business ventures. Roppo was most recently SVP Sales for Island Def Jam. “Jim is a perfect fit to lead our marketing efforts,” said Monte Lipman. “He is a valued leader who has worked closely with key brand and retail partners throughout his career. I’m confident his extensive sales and operations background will be a great asset to our talented marketing team. Or at least that's what he tells me.” Roppo had been with IDJMG for 13 years, beginning in 1999 as Regional Sales Director, based in Minneapolis. Prior to IDJ, he spent two years at PolyGram Group Distribution as National Account Manager. He began his music career in 1988 at Aron’s Records in L.A. (1/9a)
