SHE’S BACK & SHE’S PROUD: Sylvia Rhone’s profile will be high during Grammy Week. She will be honored during Essence magazine’s Third Annual Black Women in Music event, along with Kelly Rowland, who was on the roster of Rhone’s previous label, Universal Motown. “Sylvia Rhone has transformed the music industry with her vision, and she has become a trailblazer for African-American women everywhere by breaking down barriers throughout her career,” said Essence President Michelle Ebanks. “Her exceptional talent, enduring humanity, effortless elegance and popularizatio of the phrase, 'Hey, baby,' make Sylvia a true Essence woman, and we are honored to present her with the Essence Black Women in Music award.” MC Lyte will serve as the DJ for the invitation-only event, which will take place next Wednesday evening (2/8) at the Belasco Theater.
