Grainge and Braun in Venture

ODD COUPLE: UMG boss Lucian Grainge and Justin Bieber manager Scooter Braun have hooked up on a global distribution deal for the latter’s Schoolboy Records, which also represents Carly Rae Jepsen and The Wanted. The two are also the principles behind UMG’s Global Creative Investment Program, which seeks to form ventures with promising tech-savvy creators in the music business, Braun being its first resident entrepreneur. "There's a new social contract emerging between music companies, artists and entrepreneurs," Grainge told the L.A. Times. "The challenge comes in creating a structure that is open to opportunity in the midst of a discombobulation of everything we've ever known." (5/14p)
