OLD SCHOOL POOLSIDE: To mark the recent PBS special Inventing David Geffen, here’s a vintage pic of Warner Bros. record company executives hanging around at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 1974 ready to serve Steve Ross his afternoon cocktail. Look for HITS’ exclusive interview with veteran record exec Joe Smith (far right) in next week’s special, gala year-end issue, pictured here alongside (l-r): Jerry Wexler, Mo Ostin, Nesuhi Ertegun, David Geffen and Ahmet Ertegun. Little did they know that Len Blavatnik and Stephen Cooper would be waiting in the wings some 38 years later. (12/3p)
