Charlie Walk to Republic

WALK DON’T RUN: We’re hearing that in his new post at Republic, Charlie Walk—whose title has not yet been determined, but will likely be in the area of SVP/GM—will oversee not only promo, but also marketing and PR. Walk spent nearly two decades at Sony, starting at Columbia and rising to fame as a Boston local. He was upped to a national post at the label under Jerry Blair. When the latter departed to join L.A. Reid’s Arista in 1999, Walk ascended to head of Promotion under then-President Donnie Ienner and was regarded as one of the top promo guys in the biz. When Epic’s then-prexy Steve Barnett assumed the Chairmanship of Columbia in 2005, Walk moved into the Presidency of Epic. He departed in 2008 (Amanda Ghost was subsequently installed as Epic’s new President under Rob Stringer, who oversaw both labels at the time). Walk then started a new chapter outside the label system as a branding expert, launching the company JWALK, which he described as “an elegantly disruptive full-service marketing agency,” with clients from Lacoste to Papaya King.
