Page Six on Tony Bennett, Mitch Winehouse

TONY’S NOT DOWN WITH O.P.P.: Page Six came up with an offbeat way to cover a music-relatred event Monday night in N.Y. “If Tony Bennett is coming to your party, check the playlist,” begins the item, headlined “Naughty Not Tony’s Taste.” “The crooner stayed till midnight at an Amy Winehouse Foundation event at Electric Room on Monday, but was agitated by the ’90s jams—from artists such as Naughty by Nature—that were played. ‘Tony gets restless when he doesn’t like the music,’ Amy’s father, Mitch, was heard telling organizer Shane Kidd. ‘Can you tell them to put on something old?’ Bennett did enjoy Amy’s unreleased tracks played for the crowd, though Mitch told us, ‘I find it difficult to listen to her stuff.’ Adding, ‘The important thing isn’t me, it’s how long other people will be listening.’ Mitch also shared happier memories and described Amy, who passed from alcohol poisoning in 2011, as ‘a great joker.’ When he was once hospitalized for a hernia, he recalled, ‘One of the nurses gave her a uniform, and she crept into the room, and of course I started to laugh and I burst two stitches.’ The foundation will hold its gala on March 21 with Bennett, Wyclef Jean and Jennifer Hudson.” (2/6a)
