Share with TEA

ANYONE FOR TEA? Having a hit album and single from the same act will do wonders for a label’s overall share plus TEA, and having a double-double pretty much ensures a high finish. This week, we give you The Great Gatsby, with 135.5k albums plus 77k Lana Del Rey track sales (for a total of 143.2k including TEA); and Imagine Dragons, who contribute 28.4k album units plus 141k track sales (totaling 42.5k). Not surprisingly, those two gave IGA the winning score. The John Janick-led label group also leads in weekly overall share without TEA, while Atlantic stays at #4, but the rest of the Top 5 is scrambled, with RCA #2 (the Timberlake/P!nk factor still very much in effect), CMG #3 and UMG Nashville #5. Any way you slice it, of course, Universal is gobbling up marketshare like Ms. Pac-Man. As for comparative stats, album sales were up 8% vs. last week, down 1% vs. the same week last year and down 5% year to date. Album sales are down 6m units year to date. Track sales were flat vs. last week, down 3% vs. the same week last year and down 3% year to date. Track sales are down 13.6m units year to date. TEA sales were up 6% vs. last week, down 1% vs. the same week last year and down 4% year to date. TEA sales are down 7.4m units year to date. (5/16a)
