Eric Kronfeld Passes

ERIC KRONFELD, 71, veteran music industry lawyer, manager and race horse owner, died in New York City after a battle with cancer. The tough-talking New York attorney made his mark in the music industry, forming record companies with legendary producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. He was involved in producing albums by The Eagles, Eric Clapton and The Who. He also ran PolyGram in the U.S. for nearly a decade and managed Lou Reed for 12 years. At the time of his death, he was an investment banker and financial consultant to various public and private companies in China. After entering the racing industry in 1975, he bred 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta (named after the Police album), which became the only female to win the prestigious Breeders' Cup Classic, under the moniker Maverick Productions with owners Jerry and Ann Moss. Among his survivors is son Andrew Kronfeld, UMG President of Global Marketing. (5/20p)
