ATO Caroline deal

HERE'S WHAT'S SHAKING: This week's I.B. Bad column noted that "Coren Capshaw's ATO is rumored to be shopping a new distribution deal." Well, that deal is now done: The label home of Alabama Shakes has inked an exclusive pact with Caroline, the independent-services division of Steve Barnett's Capitol Music Group, it was announced today. Under the terms of the deal, Caroline will provide distribution services for all ATO's releases. "ATO has positioned itself as one of the premier independent record companies in the music business," reads a quote from Caroline prexy Dominic Pandiscia, "and we couldn't be more pleased that they've chosen Caroline as their distribution partner. Their community of artists is a testament to the label's focus on integrity and an emphasis on great music. It's much like the integrity and focus of you fine people at Billboard. Wait, this isn't running in Billboard?" In addition to Alabama Shakes, ATO also has My Morning Jacket; breaking act Allen Stone; Gogol Bordello (whose July 23 set will be the first release under the new deal); and Old Crow Medicine Show, among others.
