TRIAL UPDATE: Mike LePerruque, who spent three years as Michael Jackson's security chief a decade ago, was called as a witness by AEG Live on Friday in an effort to show jurors that Jackson was a secretive drug addict, making it impossible for the company to know his life was in danger. But things didn’t quite turn out as planned. The retired L.A. County Sheriff’s deputy, who spent three years with Jackson a decade ago, spoke glowingly of his former boss and testified that he didn’t think M.J. was an addict, CNN reports. Before taking the stand, he’d even sought out Katherine Jackson to give her a hug. Jackson "fought very, very hard not to be on the prescription medications," and vowed at one point to quit, LaPerruque testified. He said MJ told him he couldn't sleep because, "as an artist he always had a tune in his head, different melodies, and he wasn't able to stop it." LaParruque, who returns to the stand today, also noted that Jackson lost 27 cellphones during their years together. (8/5a)
